What Happens to Ads When a Deal Expires or It's Status Changes?

This article explains how ad statuses on our platform are automatically adjusted in response to changes in sponsored deals, the reasons behind these changes, and the steps to take control of paused ads by unarchiving and resuming them.

Last updated on 07 Nov, 2025

Pepper Business automatically changes the status of running ads if the sponsored deal is:

  1. Set to "expired"

  2. Set to "unexpired"

  3. Merged

  4. Deleted

  5. The merchant changes

  6. The URL changes

Understanding Deal Status Changes:

  1. Expired: The deal is no longer available, or the price has changed.

  2. Unexpired: The deal is reinstated, typically when the "expired" status was applied recently.

  3. Merged: Identical deals are combined by the community support team if they share the same price, discount, and item, and were posted within a short time frame.

  4. Deleted: The community support team has removed your deal from the platform. Contact your partnership team for more information if this occurs.

  5. Merchant Changes: Corrections to the merchant associated with a deal may be made by the community support team, such as reallocating a deal from Ebay.de to Ebay.co.uk.

  6. URL Changes: The community support team might edit a URL if the original link is broken, the item location has changed, or to remove unnecessary parameters.

Who makes these changes?

Our platform has a team of front-end community support staff who frequently check and moderate new deals as they are posted. Users can also vote a deal as "expired" if the price changes or the item is no longer available. In such instances, we will automatically pause your ad connected to a deal that has expired.

If your deal is later unexpired (it was expired by mistake) we'll automatically resume your ad.

What happens next?

In cases where your deal was deleted or merged, or in the other examples mentioned above, we'll automatically archive the ad. If the status of the deal is reverted, we don't unarchive or resume your ad; this is to ensure you keep total control over your promotions.

If you pause your ads, or for the reasons mentioned above your ad is 'Paused' automatically, it'll be archived after 24 hours.

Can I change the status back to myself?

If your ad is in status 'Paused & inventory released' after we set it automatically to archive and this change was not valid and you still want to promote your deal:

1. Open the ad and change the status in the dropdown 'Change status'.

2. Select the option 'unarchive'. Your ad will change the status to 'Paused'

3. In the last step, please 'Resume' your ad by going to the dropdown 'Change status' and choosing the option 'Resume'
